Abstract

Purpose: To explore the experience of old spouses" experiences caring her veterans husband through a qualitative research method.

Methods: In depth interview materials that obtained were analyzed by phenomenological method by Giorgi. Participants are seven elderly spouses older than 65 years who take care of a veterans husband hospitalized in a veterans hospital.

Results: The 6 themes of the elderly spouses" experience in taking care of their husbands who are hospitalized veterans are as follows: "Have no time to spare for my own self", "Be hard to take care of even my own health due to ageing", "Be encouraged with the help of my friends and acquaintances", "Accept the realities of my hard life", "Have a discrepant feelings for the government", "No provision for my old age has been made".

Conclusion: Therefore, for veterans people and their families, health promotion programs and disease prevention educations by employees or volunteers are needed.
